I wonder how many of us consider the possibility that the person who gives us the most grief about our faith was put there so we could receive this blessing?
The only problem is, that usually happens at the end of your life. It usually takes people a lifetime of searching to realize that everything that ever mattered has no real value in the world. All that time wasted; for nothing. Time that never grows back discarded in a quest that was meaningless from the start.
I know what the Word says. I know what it means. I know what I’m supposed to do and how I’m supposed to act and what I’m supposed to not do. I know where I’m supposed to stand.
I find it utterly amazing that we can make people. As I watched it happen, the birth of our first grandchild, I was humbled and completely broken down when I realized that we make people.
I can only guess that that’s the picture God sees when time after time after time we do the same thing. We continue to fight and bicker, with ourselves and with God, over things that matter and things that don’t matter.
Think back…way back. How many shortcuts can you think of that you’ve tried that actually worked? How many of the ‘surefire’ discoveries really panned out? ummm… none? I’m guessing none.
How about none of them? They were all second, third or fourth string students anyway.
None of them were picked by a rabbi, until Jesus came.
Do we love the people God loves? The ones who make us crazy, the ones no one else loves. God says, without love, none of our works mean anything.
Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15-16 NIV
