The Church isn’t a denomination. It isn’t a cathedral or a monastery or a brick building with a large wooden cross. The church isn’t made of sticks and bricks and nails and mortar. It’s made of people, of followers. The Church is the body of Christ, not a building.
The world separates us by gender, by race, by age, education, military background, security clearance, socioeconomic status, just to name a few. In a world that is separated by every conceivable degree, it is calming and comforting to know that in Christ, we are one.
Ever feel like life and its path is completely beyond your control? I know I do. It feels like no matter how hard I try to go down road #1, if God wants me down road #2, nothing I do will take me down the road I want to travel.
God doesn’t choose us for anything we have to offer. There should be comfort in that. There is nothing we can offer God, there is no amount of service, prayer, or preparation that would make God look at us and say, “wow, he’s great.” He just loves us, and that’s enough.
God calls certain people to do certain tasks. Everyone who calls Him King has a place and a duty in the Kingdom of God. Some are called to teach, others to preach. Some are called to sing and others are called to pray incessantly. Those who are called to work with prisoners probably won’t work well in the nursery and those called to pray may not make the best preachers.
