In the end, Job never turned his back on God. He worshipped in spite of his pain. He worshipped because he knew God and he knew God loved him, even if he couldn’t see through his tears.
This is Noah. He is our first grandchild. Isn’t he cute? But this post ins’t about Noah…
Do we love the people God loves? The ones who make us crazy, the ones no one else loves. God says, without love, none of our works mean anything.
We spend SO. MUCH. TIME. trying to figure out the end of the world that we fail to recognize today and all the possibilities it has. We’re so worried about the world ending that we forget to live, forget to laugh, forget to love.
I’m on the edge of losing it— the pain in my gut keeps burning. I’m ready to tell my story of failure… …Don’t dump me, God; my God, don’t stand me up.
Hurry and help me; I want some wide-open space in my life! Psalm 38:17-18, 21-22 MSG
Sometimes life is too much. [...]
Ever feel like God can’t hear you? Ever feel like the constant wailing and pleading and praying falls on deaf ears?
Sit in an airport if you ever get the chance. It’s an eye opener into the social complexities of the human race. Sit and watch parents whose children will not behave after waiting for a delayed plane. Watch how the mother placates her children into silence as the father becomes irritated. Observe the young businessman late for his flight angrily maneuvers around and elderly lady trying to balance her luggage and walking cane. Pick out the lonely traveler, whose head does not rise to meet anyone’s eye.
Bad stuff happens. This is life and until we leave this world and experience forever in heaven, this earth is where we must live. Trials and hurts, pain and sorrow are a part of life. But we do not have to let it defeat us. We do not have to let it consume us. We do not have to let it win.
Sometimes, people think that God makes mistakes. They think God must not have been paying attention because he let a baby be born with a severe handicap. God must not be watching over everything, look what happened to that poor family. Sometimes we’re given a gift that is so precious, so valuable, people can’t even see it.
We all have to go through difficult situations. None of us are immune to hurt. It may be the death of a loved one, a sickness that has stricken without warning, a disaster unfolding at our feet. There will be times in our lives when the pain and suffering will be unbearable. There will be days we scream to the heavens, “Enough!”
