Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Acts 5:3 NIV
We’ve all done it.
I’ve done it,
you’ve done it.

That man, holding the sign on the side of the road, he’s our responsibility. The mother and small children who walk through the bitter cold to get a free meal each day, they are our responsibility too. The woman, alone in the nursing home, who has long since stopped getting visitors, yup, her too.
If we’re not supposed to want the stuff of this world, why do we keep counting it or God? Do we care what the number was on the check or do we care how we felt about it when we put it in the basket? Do we give with a glad heart or is it pried from our fingers, worrying about the electric bill instead of what God will do with what we gave?
“All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.” (Acts 4:32 NIV)
One of the most amazing revelations in God’s love is that once you are filled with it, you find it [...]
You already know. It’s that itch deep down that you can’t quite figure out how to scratch. It’s that tickle deep down and it’s right on the tip of your tongue but you can’t figure out how to form the words. It’s the seed.
Giving to God should be a joy. Wait, scratch that…. giving to God must be a joy, or it’s worthless to him. God does not want us to give out of obligation, pressure or fear. God want us to give out of love, joy and purpose. How would we feel if God begrudgingly us Jesus? What kind of gift would it be if God threw the cross at us with a grimace and a snark? How much meaning would it have? None?
We all love getting gifts. Usually, it’s not the gift that’s important, it’s the fact that someone loves us enough to take the time to pick something out just for us. When we buy presents for our children, we delight in watching them open the gift and swell with joy as they embrace it. We are filled with love in the giving and the receiving of gifts. That’s also what happens when God offers us the gift of salvation.
How many times do we see them? The people holding the signs, obviously homeless, obviously hungry. How many times do we hear about the family in our church who’s husband was laid off and their car was repossessed? How many children have to go to school without a winter coat before we step up and do something about it?
God is very clear all through scripture. He tells us time and time again to take care of the poor. He tells us that the poor will go to heaven but it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven. Over and over scripture tells of the evils of worshipping money and the power it yields. How do we miss it?
What are we supposed to give back to God? As bible believing, God fearing Christians, what is God’s percentage
