Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15-16 NIV
Your pastor cannot live your life for you. Sunday alone will not get you through the week.
Ever heard those lines and thought it [...]
“But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set.If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?”
God is not like an ala carte menu. We cannot pick one from Column A and two from Column B. We cannot decide which parts we like and which we would rather not worry about. We can’t cut out the parts that are too hard or too restrictive or too insensitive to others.
Are you tired of hearing this verse yet? It’s been quoted by countless Christians over the last several days in response to one preacher’s insistence that he figured out when Judgement Day would come.
Really, Adam? Really? That’s what I want to say every time I read this passage. Really, Adam, it was all Eve’s fault?
We can do a lot of damage in God’s name. We can take a passage out of the bible and use it to justify hate. We can pull meanings from scripture that simply are not there. If we look hard enough, we can find a reason to do or not do anything.
Sometimes we need to be reminded of the instructions for using the bible.
Instructions: Open, Read, Break, Change.
When we are not 100% certain of our path, we tend to doubt. We pause and think and wonder if it was the right decision. We stumble and stammer and back up a few steps. We look around to see who’s watching and if there are eyes up us, we quickly change paths so they don’t see the doubt that set in.
There are times when I am so astounded by the Word of God that it literally takes my breath away. This is one of those times. We know Jesus was perfect. We know he was sinless. But do we really grasp the enormity of what happened?
