Have you met my evil arch enemy – chaos?
Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, 1 Thessalonians 4:11 NIV
If you know me, you know that ‘chaos’ – in any form – is my evil arch enemy. I don’t like chaos of any kind. I don’t like unorganized anything, I don’t like the feeling chaos gives me of being out of control.
I thought that attempting to live this verse would quell that feeling that chaos brings me, but I am finding, the quieter I am living, the more pain chaos brings. I think it’s because I feel that the quiet life, the unencumbered simple life of living for and loving God and my family, is what God wants from us, and that mess that is chaos, is so far from his plan for our lives that it hurts to live in it.
We are to be busy with the tasks God has given us. Our families, our children, our ministries. These are the things that should take up most of our time, and most of our minds. Worrying about what others are doing or not doing does nothing for the kingdom and only wastes precious time here on this earth that we should be using on… you guessed it – our families, our children, our ministries.
Father, quiet me, quiet my life, quiet my family so we can focus on you and your word and your plan for our lives. Lord, remind me daily that this is what is important – my family, my children, my ministry, all to the glory of your name.
