I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure. My heart took delight in all my work, and this was the reward for all my labor.  Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve,
everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun. Ecclesiastes 2:10-11 NIV

For as long as man has roamed the earth, we have tried to fill our hearts with the work of our hands. We have tried to gain happiness by the pleasures of the flesh. Yet for as long as man has roamed the earth, these works have forever been meaningless at the end of a life.

At the end of his life, we will never wish we spent more time at work. We will never wish we were on the road more. We will never waste one of our last breaths on a conference call. We were not made to fulfill our lives with things of this world.

We have become a society addicted to finding happiness by the pleasures of the flesh. Just turn on the news to see what we’ve become. We are a society so strung-out and burnt-out that we are killing ourselves and each other in pursuit of this intangible called happiness. We were not made to fulfill our lives with things of this world.

The fulfillment of our hearts, that full-to-the-brim feeling of complete satisfaction can only be found when we put our hearts and our trust in the one who created us. The freedom we so desperately seek is given to us so freely and completely when we hand the control of our lives over to Jesus. I know it sounds crazy and backwards, but that is another lie the great deceiver wants you to believe. Freedom, fulfillment, and happiness lies in the arms of Jesus alone.

Once you find it, share it.

Lord, my heart is burdened today for those who cling so tightly to the things of this world, the things that were created to be a distraction from you. God I pray with everything I have today that you open eyes and open hearts God so those we love can see the truth. Lord show us what really matters and help us see past these distractions.
