You’re how busy?
He said, “Master, if it please you, stop for a while with your servant. I’ll get some water so you can wash your feet. Rest under this tree. I’ll get some food to refresh you on your way, since your travels have brought you across my path.”
They said, “Certainly. Go ahead.” Genesis 18:3 MSG
How busy are you? Are you so busy, within the church, that you have no time to rest? Are you weary of the tasks that consume most of your life? When was the last time you stopped?
Oh yeah, I am talking to me again. I seem to do that a lot lately. But the truth is, too many of us are too busy with Kingdom work that we are left tired and weary, too weary to tend to our own homes, our own families, our own spouses.
Go ahead, ask me how I know….
I get caught in this trap all – the – time. I’m running running running and all of a sudden an entire month is gone. In this case, an entire year. I missed a whole year of life at home.
How is that possible? I was doing God’s work. I was helping others. I looked around one day and realized my home, and the people in it, were suffering.
So what’s the answer?
Balance. Rest
Balance is the answer. Rest is the answer. Remember the family God gave you is your first ministry. Then, remember that if you don’t strengthen your own life in God’s word, you really can’t help anyone else, no matter how busy you are.
LORD GOD, thank you for discernment. Thank you for friends who call me out when they see the damage I create by being too busy. Thank you for rest God. Strengthen me as I learn to be quiet, as I learn to balance. Guard my heart against idleness so I use my time wisely.
