“Why should he be put to death? What has he done?” Jonathan asked his father. But Saul hurled his spear at him to kill him. Then Jonathan knew that his father intended to kill David. 1 Samuel 20:32-33 NIV

Following God isn’t always easy; and it isn’t always safe.

We live in a culture that has little idea what a sacrifice it really is to be a Christian. All over the globe, and all throughout time, people are and have been persecuted for following Christ.

Prophets have been killed
Preparers have been beheaded
Apostles have been tortured
Disciples have been stoned
Followers have been hunted

God did not say it would be easy. That is not anywhere in the rule book. Jesus said that we would be hated just as he was hated.

Yet, we must walk unafraid. We serve in other countries, at our own risk, we teach our children to speak about God to their friends, we serve those in prison and on drugs. We put ourselves in harms way over and over, because it is to these people and these places that Jesus called us to go and serve.

Hold your head up high and take the punches that come. Know you are hated because He is real. Know you are mocked because He is real. Know you are His because He is real.

Father, protect us as we do your work. Keep us shielded from the wounds that seek to destroy us. We come in truth and because of that, there is nothing to fear.
