The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done. Genesis 8:21 NIV
Nothing surprises God. There isn’t an act we can do that he doesn’t see coming. There’s not a harsh word that can be said, a hurt to be given, a beauty destroyed that God doesn’t know about.
God knows our heart. He knows yours and he knows mine. To think otherwise is pure foolishness. God knows we have to work to be good. He knows we have to work hard to keep the evil thoughts at bay that take up residence in our minds. God knows it’s hard and he knows we are bound to cave under the pressure at times.
He wiped all but a remnant of us off the earth once. But after that moment, he promised he’d never do it again. God made us a promise we can take to the bank. He knows who we are on the inside and despite us, he won’t bring us to ruin again.
God, you know our marred hearts yet you love us anyway. You know our first thoughts are not of good, yet you promised not to wipe the earth clean again. Your mercies are beyond what we can grasp, for we would never extend the same grace to another. Thank you for showing us how much you care.
