Stop pretending they don’t matter
Be generous: Invest in acts of charity. Charity yields high returns.
Don’t hoard your goods; spread them around.
Be a blessing to others. This could be your last night. When the clouds are full of water, it rains.
When the wind blows down a tree, it lies where it falls.
Don’t sit there watching the wind. Do your own work.
Don’t stare at the clouds. Get on with your life.Just as you’ll never understand
the mystery of life forming in a pregnant woman,
So you’ll never understand
the mystery at work in all that God does.Go to work in the morning
and stick to it until evening without watching the clock.
You never know from moment to moment
how your work will turn out in the end.
How can we eat dinner every night knowing others go hungry? We do it, I do it, but I don’t understand how we do it. I don’t understand why we’re not moved out of our dinner chairs by the fact that children die every single day from starvation and a lack of drinking water.
I’m tired, very very tired, of hearing people say ridiculous things like, “we should help our own before we help other people.” Who are ‘other people’ – those in a different country? Those who speak a different language? Those who look different?
Hunger is the same throughout the world – person to person – hunger feels the same.
So then, why is it ok if they starve to death? Why is it ok, and somehow acceptable, that because they don’t live in America, they don’t deserve YOUR help?
Stop pretending they don’t matter. Stop pretending that someone else will help them. The poor will be with us forever, God intended it that way, so that we would do something about it, so that we would show compassion, give and help those in need.
How can you help?
Go to Haiti, see what it’s really like. Sponsor a missionary who gives everything to help them. Can’t go? Then sponsor a Compassion Child.
Just do something.
God, how can people say that? How can people pretend children dying in another country is ok just because it’s a different country? Are we not all your children? Are we not all your creation? God give others the courage, the desire, to step up and help another. God, I pray that one person feels the tug on their heart to support Melonnie, who gives everything she has in Haiti. Give one person the desire to support one Compassion Child. God, move people to go to these countries and see and touch and love these children so they know they are real and they do matter, to you and to me.
