Hear this, all you peoples; listen, all who live in this world, both low and high, rich and poor alike: My mouth will speak words of wisdom; the utterance from my heart will give understanding. I will turn my ear to a proverb; with the harp I will expound my riddle: Psalm 49:1-4 NIV

There are so many people in the church who “get it.” There are those all around us that understand the bible, live a life dedicated to Jesus and are more than happy to mentor or guide those of us who need a little help. They seem to always make sense,  and they always know what the bible says to do in any given situation.

Seek out these men and women and learn from them. Take the knowledge and wisdom they have to offer and grow. Some have the gift of teaching, and it doesn’t always have to be a pastor. Those who have walked before us, who have made the very mistakes we make, who had the very same questions we had, have so much to teach us.

In just about every culture but ours, the older, wiser ones are regarded with the utmost respect and dignity, because of the live they have lived, because of the knowledge they are able to pass down. Don’t let our warped culture get in the way of learning from those who want nothing more than to teach.

GOD, thank you for the wealth of knowledge you surround me with every time I come to church. Thank you for leading your people a generation ago so I would have someone to show me the way. Thank you for putting on their heart the desire to teach the things that I need to know.
