Dare Your Children
Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus. (Acts 4:29-30 NIV)
Do we want our children to grow into strong, bold followers of the faith, or do we want to raise up pew warmers? It’s something to think about because it is a decision we as parents consciously make.
Whether we like it or not; whether we see it or not; our kids look to us for guidance. They look to us so they can form their own opinions on what is right or wrong. That’s why it’s so important for us as parents to live out loud for Christ. If God is just a Sunday outing in our lives, if church is just somewhere we go before lunch, He won’t matter much to our children either. But if we’re on fire – stand back, because our kids will outshine us every time. A child who sees and hears and feels how God works in their parents’ lives have a much better chance of living their own life for God.
The second part of the equation is the hard part for parents. We’re accustomed to keeping our children close, safe, warm, comfortable. Instead, let’s pray bold prayers for our children, “God, USE MY CHILDREN for your kingdom.” That is a prayer that takes guts to pray. It’s time we dare our children to live out loud for Christ. Let’s let them show us how it’s done. Let them change their school. Let them change their friends. Let them change their world.
God, use my children for your kingdom. Put a boldness in them that I cannot even understand. Give them the courage and the compassion and the determination to make a difference in their world.
Are you ready to see what your children can do with God?
